“If you want to raise the level of the élite player, then you must raise the level of the average player.”
~ Rinus Michels Ajax and The Netherlands, former manager
Lake Cities United’s (LC United) mission is to manage, serve and promote developmental youth soccer. Providing a safe, rewarding experience, within Lake Cities Soccer Association (LCSA), at minimum cost for youths of all races, color, and creeds, regardless of their social or financial status, to excel in the sport of soccer.
To educate and promote the sport of soccer while developing the young player in mind, body and spirit to compete in every area of life being disciplined, honest, responsible and having the character of a winner.
To offer young players a developmental experience above the challenge of playing recreational soccer and strive to supplement recreational play, NOT to replace it. The focus of LC United is development and not on competitive play, or selecting a league champion. Players wishing a more Competitive level will have an outlet available to them for performance based soccer. This gives them an opportunity to thrive in their development through skills training and playing competitively. In doing so, it becomes easier to insure that Recreational soccer “stays” Recreational and those games remain “fun”. The players and parents then keep the power and performance model for the games “that count”.
Another benefit is by keeping the Recreational side recreational is the opportunity to develop ALL players by having those academy players bring their skills back to their “fun” team. This encourages development of those “fringe” players while not detracting from those who just want to have “fun”.
In order to assist in achieving this, development of the recreational coach in understanding not only the game, but the psychology in developing the young mind through the sport is also crucial. The intent is create opportunities for coaching clinics and training that emphasize the “Pleasure and Participation” model (Recreational) to make the sport fun for both player AND coach, and thus create opportunities for the “Power and Performance” model (Competitive) through development.
Offer players a developmental experience above the challenge of playing recreational soccer. The focus of LC United is development and experience. Players wishing a more Competitive level will have an outlet available to them for performance based soccer. This gives them an opportunity to thrive in their development through skills training and playing competitively. This give the older players a pathway to excelling in the sport through a performance model. This model is generally for those players wishing to compete at higher levels that may wish to also compete at high school and collegiate levels and beyond.
These club teams are power and performance based and team players can no longer play recreational soccer as they are “selected” within this model by tryouts. In doing so, they accept the model and the competitive nature of the team and the league. Excellence is demonstrated through success and reward of hard work is emphasized.
These teams also generally demonstrate the successes of the association in player development through the recreation and academy levels. While coaches need not be USSF National D licensed, it is emphasized and encouraged to obtain them for the betterment of the team. This is developed through the years in Recreational / Academy soccer and is a natural progression into Club or "Select".
Developing the essence of character through soccer.
